Are you a fan of Instagram? Guess you’ve already heard about their new IGTV! In case you need a few more details about it, then this article will surely help you become updated on this new trend.

Ready? Let’s get started.

After Instagram’s launch in 2010, they introduced in 2013 their video features. And just earlier this year, specifically June 20, they improved their mobile app and launched a new section called IGTV allowing users to upload and watch videos that are up to an hour long.

As per Performics, this new feature is both a standalone app and functionality within IG which curates vertical video content.  It allows verified creators with considerable followings to post video content, as mentioned above, up to one hour in length. IGTV has channels tied to each user publishing content. Be it in the stand-alone app or the Instagram app; users can see all curated content from accounts that they follow along with other favourite materials and recommendations based on their behaviour using it. Currently, there are no ads within IGTV.

The Basics of Using IGTV

While ads can’t be put (yet) to IGTV contents, this new feature will help businesses to succeed in their digital marketing efforts. Perhaps soon, even social media marketing in Kansas City  will leverage it to further their services.

IGTV somewhat has a similar structure to the V as users can consume content by accessing different channels on the said platform.

The only thing that’s different between IGTV and regular broadcast TV – huge corporations don’t solely run the channels on IGTV. It’s free for everyone. Company brands and individual creators on Instagram run the show, and Instagrammers can always choose switch between those creators they want to engage in just a few clicks.

All you have to do is click on the orange IGTV logo in the top right-hand corner of the screen to browse IGTV channels using your mobile app. It can be found next to the direct message icon.

  1. For You tab

From there, you will land on the IGTV homepage, and it will be placed on the For You tab by default where you can find curated IGTV contents that Instagram’s algorithm believes you are likely to enjoy watching.

  1. Following tab

Users can find content from Instagram accounts they already follow in the Following tab. It is another incentive for them to follow an account which they enjoy.

  1. Popular tab

The Popular tab combines contents that are already getting a huge number of engagement from Instagram users around the world.

  1. Continue Watching

This tab allows Instagram users to jump back to some IGTV content they have been engaging with.

  1. Search tab

Netizens can also use the search function to find new channels they can engage with on IGTV. What they have to do is type in their search term/s and proceed to browse.

Creating IGTV Content

Interested in creating some IGTV content either for personal or business use? Perhaps you’re a bit confused on getting started. Luckily, it’s much easier than you think.

The very first thing you should to do is create a channel. Access IGTV, click on the wheel icon, and then select the Create Channel. Tap 3x on the button, and your IGTV channel will be all set up.

Remember that your username and profile photo will be directly taken from your IG account.

For publishing content, you can click on your profile photo from the homepage, and select Upload Video.

From there, you’ll be taken to your mobile’s video library but it’s you to decide whether you’ll be uploading a video you prerecorded or you’ll be taking one live.

Just bear in mind that your video must be filmed vertically and should be longer than 15 seconds.

That’s it! That’s all you have to know to upload your very first piece of content to IGTV.
